English
At Barnston Primary School
We value English!
Teachers are passionate and ensure they use suitable and engaging texts to enhance the English curriculum to develop a real enjoyment. There is a consistent and structured whole-school approach to the learning and development of language skills, which nurtures a love for literacy. We teach our children to write with an author’s voice and carefully consider the impact they wish to have on the reader through using an ambitious bank of sophisticated vocabulary. In English, we teach the children how to structure and organise their work through the use of different sentence and grammatical structures. We pride ourselves on ensuring the writing the children produce is to the best of their ability and better than their last.
English and Reading
We have shown our English progression of skills and our Long term plans but the many other schemes we use are too large to place on the website, as we use Pathways to Writing and Spelling, Accelerated Reader, Fred and Ashley Booth for Guided Reading in KS1/2 and many different poetry resources. Please see Mr Pipe for more information on any of these.
