Writing

At Barnston Primary School

We value writing!

At our school, writing is how children find their voice. From their very first sentences to confident, thoughtful pieces, pupils are supported to express their ideas clearly, creatively and with pride. Writing is a valued part of daily classroom life, where children explore stories, poems and real-life writing inspired by rich, engaging texts.

Our writing curriculum develops strong skills in planning, drafting, editing and improving work, alongside accurate spelling, grammar and handwriting. We celebrate creativity, encourage careful presentation and provide purposeful opportunities for children to write across the curriculum.

We believe every child has a story to tell and our aim is for all pupils to enjoy writing, grow in confidence and achieve their full potential as writers.
